THUNDER BAY — Fire crews responded to a multi-unit building at Confederation College on Tuesday at around 5:30 p.m.
Firefighters from Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to the call and found that the building was evacuated because of working smoke alarms.
Crews entered the building and encountered black smoke. Firefighters performed a quick attack and were able to limit damage to the unit.
There was no one inside the unit at the time of the fire.
A total of six pumpers, one aerial ladder and a command unit responded to the fire.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds residents that working smoke alarms are required on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas.
