THUNDER BAY – Firefighters say they were able to quash a basement fire at a Leslie Avenue residence before it spread out of control.
In a release issued on Saturday, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue said the owner was initially having electrical issues and, after checking the electrical panel, was alerted to a fire in the dropped ceiling of the home.
The first crew arrived to find smoke in the basement and additional units were called, bringing two more pumpers and an aerial ladder to the scene.
Firefighters quickly determined the fire was spreading between the main level floor joists, exposed the ceiling area and brought the fire under control, stopping the spread to the remainder of the structure.
Fire and water damage was limited to the basement, but there was smoke damage throughout the home.
No injuries were reported.
