Firefighters douse early-morning blaze

The fire destroyed a woodworking shop on Spencer Road.

THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were dispatched early this morning to a structural fire after the alarm was called in by multiple area residents.

Firefighters arrived shortly after 1:00 am to find a detached woodworking shop at an address on Spencer Road already mostly consumed by flames.

Spencer Road is located off Goods Road between John Street Road and the Thunder Bay Expressway.

Crews found the building to be unoccupied.

Firefighters applied water, but due to the absence of hydrants in the area, the water had to be shuttled to the scene until the blaze was fully extinguished.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
