First baby of 2021 a girl

Rylee Evelyn Beda was born at 2:04 a.m. at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

THUNDER BAY – The city’s first baby of 2021 is a girl.

Rylee Evelyn Beda was born at 2:04 a.m. on Friday to parents Ashley and Kevin Beda at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Rylee is the couple’s second child, joining big brother Nicholas, who was born two-and-a-half years ago.

Baby and mother are doing fine and expected to head home from hospital on Saturday.

Ashley Beda said having a baby during a pandemic wasn’t that out of the ordinary.

“Not much different, except that my husband could only stay for a limited time after she was born. He works at the hospital, so we knew what to expect. I felt confident and the nurses were great.”

The couple was not originally expecting to have the new year’s baby.

“My due date was Jan. 11, so it’s funny it happened this way,” Ashley Beda said in a release issued by Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

“After 2020, it’s nice to start this year feeling happy. It gives me hope that 2021 will be a good year.”
