THUNDER BAY – The first Hoito Pop-up Family Pancake Breakfast Picnic will be supporting the rebuilding of the Hoito Restaurant.
Lakehead Rotary is teaming up with the Regional Food Distribution Association and the Hoito Cooperative to hold the first Hoito Pop-up Family Pancake Breakfast Picnic on June 18 at the RFDA parking lot, 570 Syndicate Avenue South.
“We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with the RFDA and the Lakehead Rotary Club to present this fundraiser. We all remember family breakfasts at the Hoito, but this time with a spin,” said Derek Lankinen, Hoito Cooperative chair.
Breakfast includes plenty of Father’s Day favourites including two Hoito Finnish pancakes, bacon or sausage, coffee, tea, and juice.
Tickets for the picnic are 15$ each and are available here with proceeds going to support both the rebuilding of the Hoito Restaurant and the RFDA.
“It is a joy to be an active participant in the diverse food culture that defines the rich history within each community,” said Volker Kromm, RFDA executive director.
“It is an honour to serve with Rotary to contribute to the restoration efforts of the Hoito that holds a special place in all our hearts, while supporting the food security needs of our Thunder Bay neighbours.”
Many residents spent their special days at the Hoito Restaurant enjoying Finnish pancakes for birthdays, graduations, Mother’s Day, and Father’s which is why organizers planned the event for this upcoming Father’s Day weekend.
“That’s a weekend where people want to do something with their fathers. This will be a great opportunity for that and it will be a pandemic safe way of doing that because people could be outside where there’s less concern about contact in public,” said Donald MacDonald, Lakehead Rotary president.
The event will happen from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will be takeout only for the first hour and then from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. there will be a choice between takeout and sitting down for your meal.
