The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced five new cases of COVID-19 Sunday.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Sunday,

All five new cases were located in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas.

Two of those cases were associated with a major COVID-19 outbreak at the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home. The home had announced the death of an eighth resident from the virus earlier Sunday.

The latest round of surveillance testing at the home occurred Friday, the health unit reported, with all residents and staff tested.

Two other cases announced Sunday were considered a result of close contact with a previously identified case, while the exposure category for the final case was listed as “pending.”

There were a total of 118 active cases in the Thunder Bay District as of Sunday, a decline of five from the previous day. The health unit had reported a record-high 128 active cases on Friday.

One individual was hospitalized in intensive care with the virus, the health unit reported, a number unchanged from Saturday.
