DRYDEN, Ont. — Heavy rain has caused some travel disruptions west of Dryden today.
Ontario Provincial Police announced late this morning that Highway 17 was closed west of Vermilion Bay due to flooding.
However, just before 2:00 p.m. EDT police said the highway had been reopened.
Secondary Highway 594, which intersects Highway 17 in the same vicinity, and secondary Highway 105 north of Vermilion Bay, were also temporarily closed due to water on the roadway.
All affected highways were eventually reopened, but at 3:45 p.m. EDT an OPP spokesperson said traffic was moving slowly because of road conditions.
OPP issued photos earlier in the day showing the Trans-Canada Highway covered in water at that time.
According to Environment Canada's rainfall warning for parts of northwestern Ontario, parts of the Dryden and Vermilion Bay areas could receive more than 100 millimetres of rain from the system currently passing through the region.
