Flu shots now available at vaccine clinics

Both flu shots and COVID-19 vaccines will be available at vaccine clinics with the health unit starting Tuesday.

THUNDER BAY — Flu shots are now available at vaccine clinics through the health unit.

Laura Dennis, the manager of the preventable disease program with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, said that anyone over the age of six months is now eligible for flu shots.

She said walk-in availability is now an option for vaccine seekers.

"Starting today, we are no longer turning away walk-ins. We would recommend people book an appointment to minimize their wait times at our clinics, though. We will be prioritizing [people with] appointments and encourage people to book an appointment or to seek out an appointment at a pharmacy."

Dennis said that currently appointments are being booked two weeks out.

She also noted that most pharmacies will offer both COVID-19 vaccines and flu shots, as well as some healthcare providers. However, pharmacists will only be able to treat patients over the age of two.

The health unit does have both the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.

The vaccine clinic at the CLE grounds, in the Coliseum building, will be running two days a week until mid to late January based on demand, said Dennis. After that, appointments can be made to receive shots at the health unit's office.

She also noted that walk-ins will be stopped half an hour before closing time to allow the clinic to close on time.
