SHABAQUA — Part of Hwy 17 was closed for several hours because of forest fires in the area over the long weekend.
On Sunday, provincial police closed part of Hwy 17 from Shabaqua to Ignace because of fires that were encroaching too close to the highway.
Both the Ignace Fire Department and Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Fire were on the scene to assist, including water bomber planes dropping water on the blaze.
Eventually, the highway was reopened around 5 p.m. Sunday evening.
