BALTIMORE -- Jacob Robson has become the first Canadian former Thunder Bay Border Cats to make the big leagues.
The Detroit Tigers farmhand on Thursday made his major league debut, going 0-2 in a 6-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles, entering the game in the sixth inning as a pinch hitter for catcher Grayson Greiner.
The Windsor, Ont. native was called up to the Tigers when they moved southpaw starter Matthew Boyd to the 60-day injured list.
The 26-year-old, born in London, Ont., played in 19 games for the Border Cats in 2014, hitting .254.
Robson hit .424 in 18 games with AA Erie in 2021, earning a promotion to AAA, where he hit .375 with five home runs and 13 stolen bases in 51 more appearances. The Mississippi State graduate was taken in the eighth round by the Tigers in the 2016 draft.
He also played for Team Canada earlier this year in an Olympic qualifier.
Robson is the ninth former Border Cat to make the jump to the majors, following in the footsteps of San Francisco's Jason Vosler, who debuted earlier this season. Vosler is hitting .183 with three home runs and nine RBI in 71 at bats, a season spent shifting between AAA Sacramento and the first-place Giants.
