THUNDER BAY – Former Thunder Bay Chill defender Luca Mastrantonio has found a new home in the USL League One.
Mastrantonio on Monday announced he’d signed with FC Tuscon.
“I am sure we are going to do great things together,” he said, in a message posted to his Twitter account. “I want to thank my family, my girlfriend and everyone that has always believed in me. This is just the start and stay sure that I mean it.”
The team said Mastrantonio had just what they were looking for in a player.
"Luca brings a wealth of experience to our backline and we are delighted to welcome him to the club," said FC Tuscon head coach John Galas, in a release.
"He comes from a great collegiate program, has USL League Two experience, and Luca is a wonderful young man who fits our culture, playing style, and profile as a ball-playing centre back."
Mastraontonio played college soccer at the University of California-Irvine, where he was an All-Far West Region and All-Big West First Team all star in his only season at the school.
"I am really excited to join this great team and finally have a chance to show what I am worth," said Mastrantonio. "I am enthusiastic about the soccer culture that this club is creating, and being a part of it is a great privilege. I can't wait to raise the cup and become champions with Tucson."
Mastrantonio spent the 2017 and 2018 season with the Thunder Bay Chill, helping lead them to the USL 2 championship game in his rookie campaign. He led all defenders that season in minutes and goals scored.
