THUNDER BAY — A former Thunder Bay Police Service officer has pleaded guilty to an impaired driving charge involving a single-vehicle collision in Oliver Paipoonge earlier in the summer.
In a Thunder Bay courtroom on Thursday, Pamela Cache, through her attorney George Joseph, pleaded guilty to one count of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.
According to an agreed statement of facts, police and paramedics responded to a single vehicle collision at approximately 8 p.m. on July 22 in Oliver Paipoonge.
The collision occurred in the area of Barrie Drive and Highway 588 where a vehicle driven by Cache had entered the ditch and struck a tree.
Officers on the scene spoke with Cache, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication including heavy-lidded eyes and slipping in and out of consciousness.
Paramedics also advised officers that a bottle of vodka was found under the driver seat of the vehicle.
Breath samples were taken from Cache that showed her blood alcohol concentration was nearly two times the legal limit.
A joint submission presented to Justice Vince Scaramuzza included a $2,000 fine, a victim fine surcharge, and a driving prohibition for a period of 12 months.
Scaramuzza accepted the joint submission, noting the aggravating factor of Cache’s blood alcohol concentration being double the legal limit.
At the time of the charges, Cache was a member of the Thunder Bay Police Service but was not on active duty. Cache has since retired from the police service.
