Former councillor Dick Waddington dies

THUNDER BAY — A Celebration of Life will be held Monday Feb. 24 for long-time Thunder Bay city councillor Dick Waddington.

He passed away on Feb. 13 in hospital at the age of 75.

Waddington was first elected to city council as the representative for Current River ward in 1979.

He served a total of 21 years, and last ran for council in the 2018 election at the age of 73.

Waddington was a driving force behind the establishment of the Current River Arena.

Waddington Park is named in his honour, recognizing his years of volunteer service in numerous athletic endeavours.

The Celebration of Life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the Current River Recreation Centre.
