The province is appointing a long-time Northwestern Ontario chief to advise the government on Indigenous affairs.
The Ford government on Friday announced the appointment of Clifford Bull, who was the chief of Lac Seul First Nation for 12 years, in the newly created role of special advisor on Indigenous affairs
In the position, Bull, who ran unsuccessfully for the Progressive Conservatives in this year's provincial election, will advise Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford on economic, social and jurisdictional issues affecting Indigenous communities. He is also tasked with serving as a liaison between Premier Doug Ford and Rickford with Indigenous communities.
"Clifford Bull has a long history of leadership within his community, working with other First Nation leaders, both levels of government, industry and municipalities," Rickford said in a government issued statement.
"He has a proven track record of bringing communities and individuals together to achieve common goals, and as Special Advisor, I know he will help create meaningful opportunities to strengthen the relationship between Indigenous communities and Ontario."
Bull served as Lac Seul's chief from 2006 until earlier this year and was previously a social worker focused on truth and reconciliation and supporting residential school survivors.
