Former NHLer Johnson named GM of Canucks Abbotsford farm team

VANCOUVER – Former Thunder Bay NHLer Ryan Johnson has been named the inaugural general manager of the Vancouver Canucks American Hockey League team in Abbotsford, B.C.

Johnson was the GM of the team's previous AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets and said he's got a dual role ahead of him.

“I'm looking forward to continuing our work of developing our organization's prospects and fielding a competitive team at the AHL level," said Johnson. "It's an exciting step for our fans, players, and organization to have our affiliate closer to home, and I'm personally grateful for the opportunity to work in a great hockey market like Abbotsford."

The former Thunder Bay Flyers standout spent 13 seasons in in the National Hockey League as a player, scoring 38 goals and 122 points in 701 appearances. His career included stops in Florida, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Vancouver and Chicago.
