TORONTO — The person leading the investigation into Monday's crash-landing of a Delta Airlines CRJ passenger jet at Pearson Airport is originally from Thunder Bay.
Ken Webster grew up in the city and served as a pilot for Bearskin Airlines before becoming an aviation accident investigator.
He joined the Transportation Safety Board of Canada in 2005, and is now the TSB's regional operations manager in Ontario.
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline, and rail transportation occurrences across the country.
Webster leads a team of 20 investigators at the crash site.
In an update released on YouTube on Tuesday, he said the TSB is working with investigators from Transport Canada, the National Transportation Safety Board in the U.S., the Federal Aviation Administration, Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air, and Mitsubishi, the company that purchased the assets of Bombardier's CJR program in 2020.
There were numerous delays and flight cancellations at Pearson for the third straight day Wednesday, due to the forced temporary closure of two of the airport's five runways.
But crews were observed in the afternoon removing some of the aircraft components from the runway on which it flipped upside down and burst into flames after arriving from Minneapolis.
