One of the oldest people in Canada, Ellen "Dolly" Gibb spent more than half her life in Thunder Bay.
Gibb, born in Winnipeg in 1905 and now living in North Bay, celebrated her 110 th birthday Sunday afternoon. More than 64 of those years was spent in her Gore Street home near James Street.
"She mowed her own lawn into her 70s," grandson Dave said on the phone from Enderby, B.C.
In a wheelchair and hard of hearing, Gibb enjoys an afternoon beer, a relatively recent pastime as she only took up drinking 40 years ago with an occasional Scotch, and Jeopardy. She's still in good health and has a sharp mind.
Her longevity is attributed to eating well and genetics.
Dave said it might also be because she rarely owned a car, choosing to walk whenever possible.
She celebrated the day with friends, family North Bay mayor Al McDonald and MPP Vic Fedeli.
Gibb has two children, nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
