Fort Frances area drug raids lead to 11 arrests, 69 charges

Two-month investigation sees more than $500,000 worth of street drugs, $70,000 in cash seized.

FORT FRANCE -- A sweep of several Fort Frances, Ont. residences has led to drug charges being laid against 11 people.

Ontario Provincial Police say a dozen warrants were executed in the raid, leading to the seizure of large quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, hydromorphone and crystal methamphetamine valued at just under $500,000. Police also seized more than $70,000 in cash and several weapons, including a shotgun and a replica handgun.

Police laid a total of 69 charges in the two-month operation, dubbed Project Jules, which included the help of Treaty Three police officers from around the region an a number of OPP units, including the North West Region emergency response team, the anti human-trafficking unit and the CSCU from both Kenora and Red Lake.

"The Rainy River District detachment is committed to working with our community partners with further education and the ongoing development of new drug prevention strategies. I commend our officers for their outstanding work on Project Jules and the positive impact it will have on our community." said acting Rainy River District Detachment Cmdr. Dereck Mclean, in a release issued on Saturday by OPP.

The following are the charges:

Bryant Acheampong, 27, of Fort Frances:
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (cocaine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code. X 2 counts
  • Fail to comply with release order contrary to section 145(5) (a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Trafficking of Schedule 1 (Fentanyl) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Acheampong has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
 
Ashley Gauthier, 30, of Fort Frances:
  • Trafficking of Schedule 1 (Fentanyl) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code. X 3 counts
  • Theft under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Fail to comply with release order contrary to section 145(5) (a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (cocaine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Gauthier has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
 
Leah Hunter, 38, of Rainy River First Nation:
  • Trafficking of Schedule 1 (Fentanyl) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code. X 2 counts
  • Theft under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Carry a Weapon contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code
Hunter has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
 
Kim Byeong, 60 of Fort Frances:
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (cocaine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
Byeong was released from custody with a future court date of July 19 at the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice.
 
Timothy Mainville, 57 of Couchiching First Nation:
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (cocaine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Careless storage of a firearm contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code.
Mainville was released from custody with a future court date of 26 July 2021 at the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice.
 
Katelynn Meline, 24, of Fort Frances:
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (cocaine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
  • MELINE was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
     

Stuart Sangster, 27, of La Vallee Township:

  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (cocaine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
Sangster was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
 
Adream Spoon, 30, of Fort Frances:
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (cocaine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.

Spoon was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Scot Tolgoni, 26, of Atikokan:
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (cocaine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of proceeds of crime contrary to section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
Tolgoni was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
 
Fawn Perrault, 23, of Big Grassy First Nation:
  • Fail to comply with release order contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (methamphetamine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Perrault was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
 
Kayla Copenace, 33, of Big Grassy First Nation, charged with:
  • Trafficking in Schedule 1 (methamphetamine) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. X 2 counts
Copenace was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
