FORT FRANCES, Ont. — By the end of the day today, millions of dollars worth of equipment from the Fort Frances paper mill will have been sold at auction.
Riversedge Developments, which bought the mill from Resolute last year, hired an international appraisal and auction company to sell the machinery and equipment.
It includes three paper machines, a wastewater treatment facility, generators, cranes, tools, electrical equipment, machining and fabricating tools, rolling stock and a lengthy list of other items.
Auctioneer Corporate Assets Inc. of Toronto, which advertised the sale as a "multi-million dollar event," says purchasers must remove all items from the mill no later than Oct. 1, 2020.
The future of the former Resolute properties in Fort Frances remains unclear.
Riversedge and Rainy River First Nations last month announced a partnership to redevelop them.
They said that, in collaboration with the Town of Fort Frances, they will work over the next year to define "the most viable and best end-use" for the site.
