THUNDER BAY -- Fort William Historical Park will not be holding its annual Family Frolic to welcome the New Year.

Staff decided to cancel the Dec. 31 event due to a lack of snow and a local appetite for variety.

"We've been thinking of changing up our events," said park general manager Sergio Buonocore.

"People get tired of having the same-old all the time and when we have something new, we generally get a good turnout. People like the refreshed events."

Buonocore insists Family Frolic isn't permanently cancelled and it will return in the future.

The resources that would have gone into the New Year's celebration will be added to Fort William Historical Park's Winter Carnival on Feb. 13-15.
