Forty-one new COVID-19 cases added

Thunder Bay now has 273 active COVID-19 cases, a new high for the district.

THUNDER BAY -- The COVID-19 case count in the District of Thunder Bay continues to grow exponentially. 

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Tuesday announced 41 new cases, bringing the total active case count to 273, a record high for the district. Twenty-five cases were moved into the resolved category overnight. 

The region's seven-day case count leapt to 216, another record, giving the district 157.6 cases per 100,000 during the past week. 

Twenty-one of the cases are close contact and 12 are pending. One case is associated with an outbreak at the Thunder Bay District Jail, one with an outbreak at the Musselwhite Mine and six more are pending. 

The region has now had 1,418 cases, 833 confirmed this year. There have been 447 cases in February, 81 more than the 386 reported in January, which at the time was the highest single-month total.
