THUNDER BAY — A man from southern Ontario and three Thunder Bay-area residents are charged with possession of cocaine for trafficking after an investigation involving multiple police services.
Details of an operation that took place in December were released Tuesday by OPP.
Police said three search warrants were executed at residences in Thunder Bay and Kakabeka Falls, and resulted in the seizure of 1.7 kilos of suspected cocaine, $257,000 in cash, and numerous items commonly used in the trafficking of drugs.
The estimated street value of the drugs is $170,000.
The accused – who are also charged with possession of the proceeds of crime – include a 30-year-old resident of East Gwillimbury, a 62-year-old Thunder Bay man, a 43-year-old woman from the city, and a 70-year-old man from Kakabeka Falls.
One of the accused remains in custody, while the other three were released pending future court dates.
The search warrants were executed by the OPP-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team, other OPP units, the Thunder Bay Police Service emergency task unit, and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service.
Assistance in the investigation was also provided by the Toronto Police Service Drug Squad.
