Freezing rain could start on Christmas night and last, in some areas, until Wednesday.

THUNDER BAY -- Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of the potential for a significant amount of freezing rain, starting on Monday evening.

The weather service said a Colorado Low could bring up to 15 millimetres of freezing rain could occur lasting through Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday in some areas. It could result in icy and slippery conditions, with ice buildup leading to potentially hazardous conditions and utility outages.

However, at this time, Environment Canada cannot say with certainty the location or ice accretion amounts, noting freezing rain warnings will be issued as the event draws nearer.
