Those looking for a family friendly fright found it at Fort William Historical Park this weekend.
While the Fort is typically known for the always terrifying and sold out Haunted Fort Night over the past 17 years, it decided to also host the Kids Halloween Hoot this year. More than 500 people checked out the first-ever event on Saturday and Sunday. Featuring spooky crafts, a scavenger hunt and a haunted maze, spokesman Marty Mascarin said the event has a lot to offer.
“And of course plenty of treats for the kids,” he said.
Cameron Scobak, 5, said he’d been having a lot of fun checking out the themed buildings. While spotting an inflatable vampire was good, he said the best part for him was near the farm.
“Going in the hay,” he said.
John Houston came to the fort with his fiancée and a bunch of friends. So far his favourite part had been the pumpkin toss.
“The fun, the excitement it’s great,” he said. “All the kids are having a great time.”
Houston said it’s good for the community to have events like the Halloween Hoot.
“It brings people together to have fun,” he said.
Mascarin said the hoot has been remarkably successful so far. And because 80 per cent of the activities are indoors, he’s hoping to see more people out over the next two weekends even if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
“It’s doing very very well,” he said.
The Hoot runs Oct. 20,21, 27 and 28 from noon to 5 p.m.
