THUNDER BAY -- An early afternoon fire has damaged a Winnipeg Avenue home. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue District Chief Phil Buckler said a natural gas furnace inside the home caught fire and crews responded shortly after 12:30 p.m.

THUNDER BAY -- An early afternoon fire has damaged a Winnipeg Avenue home.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue District Chief Phil Buckler said a natural gas furnace inside the home caught fire and crews responded shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters were able to protect the structural integrity of the home..

“It was quickly brought under control,” Buckler said. “There is some smoke damage to the house.”

There was one occupant home at the time of the fire but they were uninjured.

Buckler said the cause is unknown and there might be an investigation.
