OLIVER PAIPOONGE, Ont. -- Any future use for the Agriplex won’t be announced until 2015.
Oliver Paipoonge had set a Dec. 1 deadline to receive expressions of interest for the vacant 53,000 square foot building and surrounding property on Highway 130.
Mayor Lucy Kloosterhuis said the future of the Agriplex was discussed during a recent in-camera meeting but would not provide specifics on any of the proposals submitted.
The facility was built in 2000 with a $1.6 million grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation. However, only about 75 per cent of the building was completed due to a shortage of funding.
The Agriplex was acquired by the township two years ago and is now looking at determining a future purpose.
Kloosterhuis had said earlier this year the building would be too expensive for the municipality to use but that it should be manageable for a private company to get it to up to specifications.
The property will again be a focus of the town council’s during a Jan. 12 closed session meeting.
