Hogarth Riverview Manor residents will enjoy a new garden this summer.

St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay release

THUNDER BAY – Hogarth Riverview Manor celebrates the summer weather with a new garden.

Thanks to a donation to St. Joseph’s Foundation by the staff of Lowe’s, a raised therapeutic garden was constructed and outfitted with a variety of plants for all to enjoy.

In November 2018, Lowe’s made a donation of $4,279.18 to enhance resident experience through accessible gardens. In addition to this generous gift, the Lowe’s volunteer team has been on site this spring assisting with the redevelopment of the gardens. St. Joseph’s Care Group and St. Joseph’s Foundation want to thank Lowe's for their generous support.

Gail Brescia, Executive Director for St. Joseph’s Foundation, explains how raised gardens will allow residents to participate in Horticultural Therapy: “Making gardens accessible allows the Volunteer Master Gardeners from the Horticultural Society to include more residents in Horticultural Therapy. The joy that comes to residents from working in the garden with the plants, gardening resources, tasks and activities helps to improve their social, psychological, physical and cognitive abilities as well their body, mind and spirit.”

Chair of St. Joseph’s Foundation Board of Directors Sandra Sutherland-Byers says: “On behalf of St. Joseph’s Foundation’s Board of Directors we are so grateful to the staff of Lowe’s for the generous support – for your fundraising and for your time and talents to build the new raised gardens at Hogarth Riverview Manor. The Superior Garden will provide a multitude of benefits to residents and offer all visitors to the site a beautiful landscape to enjoy.”

Tracy Buckler, President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Care Group, is grateful for the donation: “June is Seniors Month, and this garden is a wonderful way to say thank you to our seniors for their contributions. To the staff of Lowe’s of Thunder Bay and the Horticultural Society of Thunder Bay, your generosity will bring joy to Hogarth Riverview Manor’s residents, staff and visitors for many years to come.”
