OTTAWA – After a shocking shootout loss to Latvia, Canada’s national junior men’s hockey team needed a reset

Carter George ensured they got it.

The Thunder Bay goaltender stopped all 25 shots he faced to record his second straight shutout, leading Canada (2-0-1) to a 3-0 win over Germany.

George, who plays for the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack and was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings last June, attempted a goalie goal late in the contest, with the German goaltender on the bench, but the puck went wide.

The 18-year-old did pick up an assist on Mathieu Cataford’s third-period goal, scored with three seconds to go in regulation.

Oliver Bonk and Caden Price, who doubled Canada’s lead with five minutes to play in the third, also scored for Canada.

The Canadians will take on the United States, who fell 4-3 in overtime to Finland, on New Year’s Eve.

The winner will take first place in Group A.

Czechia and Sweden lead Group B at 3-0-0.
