THUNDER BAY – A Gorham woman is the latest millionaire created by the Thunder Bay 50/50 jackpot.

Leanne Miller got the call on Friday morning, learning she’d won the February 2025 prize, worth a whopping $1,752,315.

It’s the seventh-largest jackpot in the 49 draws since the lottery was instituted four years ago.

She was caught off guard when the call came in at 11 a.m.

“Am I the winner? I'm losing my mind right now,” she told Torin Gunnell, manager of lotteries at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.

Asked what she planned to do with the money, Miller said she had a pretty good idea what some of the money will be put toward.

“We are building onto our tiny little home for our growing family, and it will help pay off the mortgage and build this new addition,” Miller said in a release issued by the Foundation.

Miller confessed she’s been buying tickets every month for quite some time, adding it’s for a good cause.

“Even if I don't win, I love supporting the hospital. It's such a good thing we are doing for everyone here in Thunder Bay.”

The Thunder Bay 50/50 Lottery has awarded more than $60 million in prizes since it was introduced in 2021.

The 50th 50/50 draw is scheduled for March 28.

Tickets can be purchased at www.thunderbay5050.ca. Ticket-buyers must be in Ontario at the time of purchase.
