THUNDER BAY — A 41 year-old Thunder Bay man is facing numerous charges after multiple police units made an arrest at an Arthur Street West location earlier this month.

Ontario Provincial Police said the arrest happened on Feb. 4. The suspect has reportedly been in custody since, and is scheduled to be in court on Wednesday, according to a media release issued on Wednesday.

Police said when the suspect was arrested, they found a number of items, including a loaded firearm with an altered serial number, quantities of suspected cocaine and crack cocaine, over $2,500 in Canadian currency, two digital scales and two cell phones.

Police allege that the man resisted arrest at the time. They also said he had a pair of outstanding warrants for previous offences.

The 41 year-old was charged with numerous firearms offences, including possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, carrying a concealed weapon and several others.

The man was also charged with resisting arrest, possession of cocaine with intent to traffic, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000 and breaching court orders.

The arrest, OPP said, was the result of an investigation that began in January involving the provincial guns and gangs enforcement team, a multi-service task force that, in this case, included OPP, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and Thunder Bay police.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
