HalloWheelies party at Goods & Co. Market

The Wheelies Roller Rink at Goods & Co. Market was a hit once again.

THUNDER BAY – After a successful Throwback to Wheelies party back in June, Goods & Co. Market held a Hallowheelies Party on Saturday evening.

Kayla Wallace, events and sales manager at Goods & Co., said the wheelies event was a huge success in June.

“It was just something that, with the old Eatons Centre, we have the space, we have the amazing hard concrete flooring for it.

“We've heard a lot of people talk about wishing that there was somewhere to do some in line skating. The CEO, Maelyn, just thought it would be a great opportunity to host something like that here,” she said.

Wallace said the first party was an incredible turnout, and Hallowheelies looked no different.

“The last time we had about, I would say 170 to 200 guests throughout the duration of the evening.

“The response was people wanted us to host it once a month. Doing the second one, now as the weather starts to cool down, people are looking for more inside activities. We are seeing the same response again and hopefully people want to do it throughout the rest of the year.”

Wallace said they like to keep it at about 100 skaters on the floor at a time to keep it safe.

“It's something that carries a huge community following and we're really thrilled that people love it.

“We've got some complimentary popcorn, of course, we've got the drinks at Woodside Bar here. We've got a really good Halloween theme going on. Other than that, it's just a heck of a lot of fun,” she said.

There were a few prize giveaways throughout the evening, Wallace said.

“We've got the nicest moves that people have on their skates, best costume, and then most improved. So, if you're a beginner skater or you're an expert, we've got something for everybody.

Wallace said Goods & Co. staff are looking to hold wheelies events throughout the year, and it is based on the response of guests.

“Keep an eye out for the next one if you miss tonight, grab yourself your old roller skates or your new in line skates and head on down to Good & Co. and have a rolling good time.”

Wallace said for updates to watch social media or pop into Goods & Co., where staff would be happy to promote upcoming events.

Newswatch spoke with multiple children during the wheelies event who said they loved the event, want Wheelies events to happen more often and say the experience is a 'solid 10/10.'

Beverly, a woman who remembers skating at Wheelies Roller Rink in Thunder Bay, said it’s awesome for children and adults to experience Wheelies again.

“I used to save up my money for all my chores I did, and we went to Wheelies, all of us cousins. We went there together and had the most fun time.

“My heart is just happy for them that they're out here. I'm going to come back again, I'll bring my kids.”

Beverly said it’s part of socializing and having fun and being a part of a community

It's part of socializing and having fun and just being a part of community and that's what we used to do.

“It's fun. That's what this is all about,” she said.
