THUNDER BAY -- A familiar, yet troubling, scene unfolded once again on Thursday afternoon at Hammarskjold High School.
An anonymous threat received by police left officials with no choice but to close the Clarkson Street school, the yellow school buses rolling onto the school property to await the OK from police, who placed the school in a hold-and-secure protocol.
Just after noon, Lakehead Public Schools announced Hammarskjold would be closed for the day, the threat received earlier in the morning.
Students who walk to school and those who drive or had access a ride were dismissed, police allowing them to leave at about 12:30 p.m. School buses were called in early to transport other students from the school.
This is at least the 11th threat directed at Hammarskjold during this academic year and the ninth time the school has been closed.
The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board has put neighbouring St. Pius X Elementary School under a hold-and-secure protocol.
A public meeting regarding the Hammarskjold threats has been scheduled for tonight at Hammarskjold, but there is no word as to what the latest threats may mean for those plans.
A parent council representative on Wednesday said they have an alternate site picked out to host the meeting, but did not divulge the location for security reasons.
