Handgun seized, suspected drug trafficker arrested

Thunder Bay Police say they also recovered suspected cocaine and fentanyl during a raid on a Tupper Street residence.

THUNDER BAY — Police seized a handgun and suspected cocaine and fentanyl after raiding a Tupper Street residence on Wednesday.

A 23-year-old male from southern Ontario was charged after police served a warrant, part of an investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity.

Police also seized cash and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking, according to a release issued on Thursday.

The accused, who hails from Brampton, Ont., was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, cocaine and fentanyl, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a prohibited device.

The accused was remanded into custody following a court appearance on Thursday, April 24.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
