THUNDER BAY – The obstruction and breach of trust case against the former chief and in-house lawyer of the Thunder Bay Police Service continues to make its way through the court.
Counsel representing both Sylvie Hauth and Holly Walbourne made court appearances at the Thunder Bay Courthouse virtually on Monday to set a date for a judicial pretrial for Jan. 31.
A judicial pretrial is a meeting between all parties in a court matter to discuss procedural and evidentiary issues, trial estimates or resolution options.
This is the second judicial pretrial in this case; the first took place on Dec. 5, 2024.
Hauth and Walbourne were charged in April 2024 following an OPP investigation that began in December of 2021.
Hauth is facing one count of obstructing a public or peace officer, one count of breach of trust, and two counts of obstruction of justice.
Walbourne was charged with obstructing a public or peace officer, breach of trust, and three counts of obstruction of justice.
It is alleged Hauth and Walbourne made false or misleading statements to the Thunder Bay Police Service Board, and the Ontario Civilian Police Commission. It’s also alleged Walbourne made false or misleading statements to the Toronto Police Service.
The case will return to court on Feb. 3 to address the next steps in the matter.
None of the allegations against Hauth or Walbourne have been proven in court.
