THUNDER BAY – A judicial pretrial will take place later this week in the court case against the Thunder Bay Police Service’s former chief and in-house lawyer.
Sylvie Hauth and Holly Walbourne are both facing charges of obstruction and breach of trust.
Counsel representing both Hauth and Walbourne made court appearances at the Thunder Bay Courthouse virtually on Monday to set a date for a judicial pretrial on Thursday.
A judicial pretrial is a meeting between all parties in a court matter to discuss procedural and evidentiary issues, trial estimates or resolution options.
Hauth and Walbourne were charged last spring following an OPP investigation that began in December 2021.
Hauth is facing one count of obstructing a public or peace officer, one count of breach of trust, and two counts of obstruction of justice.
Walbourne was charged with obstructing a public or peace officer, breach of trust, and three counts of obstruction of justice.
It is alleged Hauth and Walbourne made false or misleading statements to the Thunder Bay Police Service Board, and the Ontario Civilian Police Commission. It’s also alleged Walbourne made false or misleading statements to the Toronto Police Service.
Following Thursday’s pretrial, the matter will return to court on Jan. 6.
None of the allegations against Hauth or Walbourne have been proven in court.
