Health Unit recognized for its work reducing stigma around addiction

Thunder Bay District Health Unit is the first organization to receive allyship award.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has been recognized for its work reducing stigma around addiction.

The health unit received the Employer Allyship Award award from the Community Addiction Peer Support Association at the Working on Wellness festival in Ottawa last month. The association addresses stigma and works with organizations to improve substance use health with education, research and policy change.

The health unit’s leadership and efforts to promote substance use health education and reduce stigma in workplaces and the community, specifically with its I heart Someone Who Uses Drugs campaign. The organization also provides free stigma education training to the community.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is the first organization to receive this award.
