THUNDER BAY -- Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the city of Thunder Bay.

A two-day heat event is forecasted for Monday and Tuesday, with maximum temperatures expected to reach between 29 and 32C.

The government weather agency says minimum temperatures near 18C will bring little relief from the heat Monday night into early morning Tuesday. Tuesday night's low temperatures, however, will likely be in the low- to mid-teens, bringing an end to the significant heat.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
