THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay area and much of Northwestern Ontario are in line for another dousing from Mother Nature over the next couple of days.
Environment Canada has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the city – and westward to the Manitoba border – for the period between Wednesday evening and Friday morning.
Forecasters say to expect local rainfall amounts totalling 25 to 50 millimetres, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms are likely.
The first is expected Wednesday evening and will taper off Thursday morning.
The second round is expected Thursday evening and will taper off Friday morning.
There's considerable uncertainty regarding rainfall amounts at this point, but Environment Canada said it will issue updates.
Because the ground in most parts of the region is already near a saturation point, it has little ability to absorb additional water.
This raises the risk of further flooding.
