THUNDER BAY - Motorists can expect some delays next week as repairs to the CN overpass will result in the closure of Highway 61 for an extended period of time.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, emergency reasons due to damage to the overpass sustained last week, Highway 61 between Broadway Avenue and Neebing Avenue will be closed to all traffic from Monday Nov. 11 at 10 p.m. until Thursday Nov. 14 at 6 a.m.

A detour will be in place down Neebing Avenue to Broadway Avenue in both directions.

The Ministry said the closure is necessary to ensure the safety of road users and workers while repair work is being completed.

The Highway was also closed on Sunday to all traffic.

All motorists are reminded to obey all traffic signage and flag persons on the road.

The overpass was damaged last Monday when an over-height vehicle struck the south side of the structure.

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision and asked anyone who may have seen anything or may have video of the incident to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
