THUNDER BAY — Tbaytel hoped to restore service Monday afternoon to rural customers affected by a lengthy outage caused by a traffic accident.

The Sunday morning collision on Highway 102 took some lines down and cut off phone, internet, TV and mobility service.

A Tbaytel spokesperson said areas affected by the service disruption included Lappe, Dog Lake Road, Surprise Lake, Ware Township, Trout Lake, Hawkeye Lake, Highway 102, Intola, Shabaqua and Shebandowan.

He explained that repair crews had to wait until early Sunday evening to gain access to the collision site as other utility partners had to complete their work first.

Tbaytel staff did some preliminary work Sunday.

For safety reasons they could not continue working through the night, but returned to the accident site this morning.

As a result of the temporary loss of communications, the Lakehead District School Board cancelled classes at Gorham & Ware Community School today.
