NIPIGON – It’s time again to hike along the Nipigon River Recreation Trail for Hike for Health, an annual charity event held on the last Saturday of September that is celebrating 25 years of bringing communities and outdoor enthusiasts together.

The event is organized by a group of volunteers and all funds raised go back into local communities to support health and wellness programs and initiatives.

“After a couple of years running the event with strict public health measures, the committee is excited to have a more normal year,” said Katrina Radassao on behalf of the committee.

“25 years of the hike is a huge accomplishment, and we cannot wait for the hike as well as the Friday events-- Night Sky Photography and Beer and Boards. This year we hope to raise even more money than last and to continue to support our local communities for many more years to come!”

The main event will be held on Sept. 24 and those wishing to attend can register and get their optional pledge forms here ($25 for ages 13+ and $10 for ages 12 and under).

Pre-registration is required to qualify for draw prizes and closes on Sept. 22 at 4:30 p.m.

This year's event is also now offering Friday events on Sept. 24 including a hands-on photography workshop titled Night Sky Photography with C. Crowell, which costs $10.

Friday events also include Beer and Boards at Edge Arts, where, for $25, attendees can taste some local beers while socializing and enjoying delicious food.

“Grab your family, friends and hiking shoes to come on out and support Hike for Health! It'll be a beautiful autumn day on the trail with breakfast, prizes and giveaways,” said Radassao.

“There is even an underwater museum program being run by Parks Canada for those wanting a shorter hike or those wanting to do more after the full hike! Register TODAY!”

When out on the trail or participating in any of the Friday events, be sure to tag Hike for Health in your photos and share your adventure! #hikeforhealthNR
