THUNDER BAY – A century-old church on the city’s north side has met the wrecking ball.
The former St. Ansgarius Swedish Church on Secord Street, built prior to 1907, was torn down this week.
It had functioned as a church until the 1980s when it was briefly turned into private apartments. It has since been abandoned for a number of years.
The building had been listed on the city’s heritage register but due to its significantly deteriorated condition the demolition had been approved by Thunder Bay city council earlier this month, following a recommendation by the heritage advisory committee.
