HNO retaining existing dressing room policy

Despite Hockey Canada saying that teams and individuals are not able to opt out of the new policy, Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO) will maintain its existing dressing room policy from the 2016 Ontario Human Rights mediation.

Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO) has decided not to move forward with the new Hockey Canada Dressing Room Policy.

In a memo shared with TBNewswatch dated October 12th, Executive Director Jim Fetter stated that HNO will maintain the existing Dressing Room Policy from the 2016 Ontario Human Rights Mediation.

“Should a future transition be made by HNO to the Hockey Canada Policy, the requirements will be addressed between the two policies with adequate notice to be announced ensuring all changes are made with due diligence,” the statement added.

Hockey Canada revealed its new policy on September 12th which require minor hockey players to always have their base layer on in the dressing room, before or after being on the ice.

If players under 18-years-old need to change into or out of their base layer, then they must use a washroom to do so.

Hockey Canada has said teams and individuals are not able to opt out of the policy.

Swimwear is needed for those showering in an open setting.

TBNewswatch has reached out several times to Jim Fetter for comment on this story.
