THUNDER BAY - The case against mayor, Keith Hobbs, along with his wife, Marissa Hobbs, and Thunder Bay resident, Mary Voss, continues to make its way through the courts.

The case was spoken to briefly in a Thunder Bay courtroom on Oct. 31 and attorneys speaking on behalf of Toronto lawyer, Brian Greenspan, who is representing Keith and Marissa Hobbs, requested more time to review disclosure documents. The case was remanded to Nov. 21 to set a date for a judicial pre-trial.

Hobbs and his wife Marissa are facing charges of extortion and obstruction of justice. The charges were first laid by the Ontario Provincial Police in July. Voss is also facing a charge of extortion.

Court documents show that the allegations against Keith and Marisa Hobbs and Voss stem from an attempt to “induce Alexander 'Sandy' Zaitzeff to purchase a house, by threats, accusations or menace of disclosing criminal allegations to the police, thereby committing extortion."

Zaitzeff is currently facing charges of sexual offences involving a minor and several counts of sexual assault and was first arrested in November, 2016.
