THUNDER BAY -- The hockey community is not giving up hope that a city owned rink will be allowed to remain operational.

A rally has been organized for Monday at 4:30 p.m. outside Thunder Bay city hall, after it was learned the city plans to close Neebing Arena as part of cost-cutting measures designed to cut $1.5 million from the city's budget

A Facebook user named Karen Martin is asking the hockey community and members of the public to "tell council that we do not want the Neebing Arena closed and our outdoor rinks not maintained."

"Please share with your list of parents. It's hard enough to book ice time without losing another rink."

Council considered closing Neebing Arena seven years ago during budget talks.
