Homeowner catches cat burglar on camera

Worried a would-be burglar was snooping around his home, and oftentimes leaving the front door open, a local homeowner setup a camera and caught a surprisingly fury suspect in the act.

THUNDER BAY -- For months, local homeowner Corey Broersma couldn’t pinpoint the suspicious occurrence of finding his front door open.

The homeowner had discovered on several occasions that his front door was left slightly open. He was certain the door was shut properly, and assumed someone must have been opening his door while he was gone.

“We were a little bit confused,” Broersma said. “I was wondering if my kids were leaving it open or maybe somebody was scoping out our house for a robbery making sure we weren’t there.”

Broersma said after about five incidents he had a theory about who the culprit could be. To test his hypothesis, Broesrma set up a GoPro outside the door.

It didn’t take long for Mr. Fluffy, Broersma’s cat, to come sauntering up to the entrance's front step where he tapped his paw against the door and let himself in by pulling down the handle and pushing his way through.

“My wife has been feeding him a lot of tuna, so he has got the weight now to pull the door handle down,” Beoersma said.

After the discovery, his family has to make sure the door stays locked even while they're home. Mr. Fluffy's open-door attitude gives a way for the family's two dogs to escape.

Mr. Fluffy’s acts of rebellion doesn't stop there.

He’s been known to hover around his neighbours feeders to scope out the birds who come down for a drink.

Some reports even suggest the cat is a bit of a creep, as neighbours have mentioned they’ve noticed Mr. Fluffy peering through the window as they showered.

Beoersma said he was found on Highway 61 about two years ago, so his family adopted him off Kijiji and he has been “terrorizing the neighbourhood” ever since.

He hopes that one day the cat will eventually learn to close the door behind him as well.
