Homicide Investigation follows serious North May Street Incident

Police are investigating the death of a man on May Street as a homicide

THUNDER BAY – A man has died in hospital following a serious assault at a North May Street address.

Thunder Bay Police said they were called to the scene, in the 500 block of the south-side neighbourhood, just after 2:30 a.m. on Monday after a report of a disturbance and an injured male.

Police said the man died at about 3:30 a.m. after being taken from the scene to hospital.

Upon arrival, police say they found an adult male with significant injuries consistent with that of a serious assault.

The incident is being treated as a homicide and police continue to investigate the circumstances behind the victim’s death.

A post-mortem is scheduled and police are in the process of notifying next-of-kin.

The name of the victim has not been released and no arrests have yet been made.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to a residential address in the 500 block of North May Street shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Monday, March 23 following reports of a disturbance and an injured male.

When officers arrived they located an adult male with significant injuries consistent with that of a serious assault. Paramedics transported the victim to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment of those injuries.

Before 3:30 a.m., the male died from his injuries.

Police are now holding a scene and members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit are treating this as a homicide investigation. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the male’s death.

A post-mortem examination is being scheduled and investigators are in the process of notifying next of kin.
