THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay 50/50 draw will return in 2022.

And why not?

As of Wednesday morning the record-breaking take-home jackpot for December’s draw has soared to nearly $1.54 million, more than $550,000 higher than the previous record count from last February. Combined, the jackpot total from the 11 draws is just shy of $7.9 million, with more than a week to go before December’s cut-off next Thursday.

“The feedback on the Thunder Bay 50/50 has been incredible, so it was a no-brainer to continue for 2022.  The 50/50 program has helped us purchase some great equipment for our hospital, giving our caregivers the tools they need to provide the best possible patient experience.  We are excited to be able to extend the draw for another year, and continue to help our hospital,” says Glenn Craig, president and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.

In 2021, some of the equipment funded by the proceeds of the draw included a 3T MRI scanner, an ICU bariatric stretcher chair, portable medical lifts, automated medication dispensing units, a general ultrasound unit and probes, and large volume infusion pumps, to name a few.

On average the hospital foundation brings in between $5 million and $7 million a year, a total which has been impacted by COVID-19 restrictions and the lack of traditional events used to raise money.

Tickets are available to anyone in Ontario at the time of purchase and can be found at www.thunderbay5050.ca until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 30. Ticket purchasers must be 18 or older.
