THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s 50/50 December grand prize has now surpassed $6 million, making it the largest jackpot of any hospital 50/50 draw in the country.
“We’ve shattered all records with this draw,” said Glenn Craig, president and chief executive officer of the health sciences foundation, in a news release. “To think that this incredible prize, the largest hospital 50/50 draw in Canada, is happening right here in Thunder Bay is beyond exciting. This Jan. 3, someone is going to wake up $6 million richer."
The foundation guaranteed a $2.5 million grand prize for the December draw after the jackpot reached a record $3.98 million in the same month last year.
The jackpot quickly surpassed $3 million and then hit the $4 million mark just before Christmas, breaking last year’s record.
It then reached $5 million on Sunday and has steadily been climbing towards $6 million.
Tickets are available online or in-person at the 50/50 Store in Intercity Shopping Centre.
Sales close at midnight Thursday and the winner will be drawn at 11 a.m. on Friday.
