THUNDER BAY -- The west entrance to the regional hospital is blocked off after a section of the roof has blown off.
Large pieces of debris were visible on the sidewalk near the entrance on the west side of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Hospital spokesperson Tracie Smith said high winds caused a large piece of metal flashing to come off the roof of the main entrance.
Nobody was injured, she added.
"As a precautionary measure, the area has been roped off. The west entrance is closed, and the sidewalk between the patient drop off/pick up and the main entrance foyer is blocked off. The main entrance may be accessed under the renal canopy area," the hospital said in a statement.
Security personnel are directing traffic away from the area and keeping people from walking directly on the sidewalk that connects the hospital to the adjacent medical centre building.
The hospital statement said road access to the patient drop off and pick up area will be altered until weather conditions improve and a partial road closure is in place, though people can pick up and drop off patients from the area.
Environment Canada is forecasting winds of 40 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour, for Friday afternoon.
